Rotary auger type drill steels are used to drill shot holes and rock bolt holes in the softer measures typically found on coal mines. They are used in conjunction with hand-held electric drilling machines. Removal of the drill chips is effected by the auger action of the drill steel and water is not required to flush the drill hole.
Drill steels are available in standard lengths from 0.6m to 3.6m in increments of 0.3m. Non-standard lengths are available on application.
Do not drill holes longer than 1.5m in one pass. Always use a 'starter' steel of not more than 50% of the required ultimate hole length to start the hole. Failure to observe this precaution will lead to bending of the drill steel during drilling which causes metal fatigue and eventual failure.
The following diameter is available:
| Nominal diameter | Bit end | Drill end |
|---|---|---|
| 35mm | ‘P’ shank | Standard shank to suit drill |
